What is MIRE?

The Association of Hungarian Literary Memorial Houses (MIRE in its Hungarian acronym) was founded on the initiative of the Petőfi Literary Museum in 2008 to help the preservation, up-to-date operation and development of literary memorial houses.

The association provides specialist support for establishing new memorial houses and setting up new exhibitions, as well as related research.

MIRE’s aim is to develop a network of literary memorial houses, actively participate in local and regional events and closely co-operate with schools, so that each memorial house would be a living, cultural centre for the given community.

The association strives to establish contacts and utilise the potential of memorial houses, both in Hungary and abroad. With its work MIRE would like to involve everyone – individuals and institutions – committed to the future of literary memorial houses.
